Genesis 6:9-11:32

Noach was a Tzadik, a righteous man. That means that he did the right thing when he could have done the wrong thing. When he could have lied, he told the truth. When he could have stolen a cookie from the cookie jar, he asked his mother first. When he saw an elderly person he stood up in respect. When his father asked him to do something he obeyed. And when HaShem asked him to obey His commandments and to build a huge boat called the Ark, he obeyed. Noach was a man who did right things even when he was a little boy.

There were about 5 billion people on the earth when Noach was alive. He lived in a day where people fought a lot. They also drank a lot and ate a lot. The people did not want to keep the commandments of HaShem. Every person had the same choice like Noach—to do right or wrong, but they chose to do what was wrong. G-d said these people were wicked.

HaShem was so angry because the people treated Him and each other so badly that He said that He was sorry He even made man. So, G-d decided to start over with new people. But, before he could do that he had to remove the bad people from the earth. How did He do it?

HaShem was going to send a flood. What is a flood? A flood is when there is so much water that it covers everything. How and when was HaShem going to make it flood?

First, HaShem saw that Noach was good and HaShem never destroys the good with the bad. So, to protect Noach, He told Noach to build a huge boat. The boat was the size of about 3 football fields. It could fit 569 train stock cars inside of it. It had three floors, one window on the top, and one door on the side.

Now, while Noach built the huge boat, he told the people that the needed to ask HaShem to forgive them of their sins and turn away from their bad deeds because soon G-d was going to punish them for their bad deeds. But, the people would not listen to Noach. They thought he was a foolish man, a crazy man for building a big boat on the land—especially because there was no water near the boat. When Noach said that HaShem would send rain for forty days and nights the people laughed and gossiped about him because they had never seen rain.
