VAYERA - "The Renewed Promise of Redemption - Part 3"

What is the Name of the Father?
Part 3—A Name and its Image

Exodus 6:2-9

The word “Name” in Hebrew is “Shem”.  Shem is not only a lineage that comes down through Noah, but it specifically means, “a definite and conspicuous position.  An appellation, as a mark or memorial of individuality, a seal.”  It also means, “honor, authority, and character.”

When we dig deeper into the significance of a name we find that even the false Messiah will cause all men to take upon themselves a mark that represents the ‘name of the Image of the false Messiah.’

Revelations 13:15-18 (vs 15-17) “And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.  And he causes all, both small and great rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:  And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.”  14:9, “If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, the same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God…” Vs 11, “and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receives the mark of his name.  Here is the patience of the saints:  here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Yeshua.”

Believers too are destined to take on the name of an Image.  Just as the false Messiah has an image (Satan manifest in flesh) and that image has a name, so does the true Messiah have an image and His image has a name.  And just as the name of the false Messiah is the manifest name of Satan himself—the name of the true Messiah is the manifest name of God himself.  Let’s look at the sequence of events unfolding the image of God.

  • God makes man in his image—his likeness, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” Gen 1:26-27

  • Subsequently man and woman, who were made in the image of God, were given the name Adam.  Gen. 5:1-2

  • Adam was made in God’s image.  Then Adam begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth:  Thus began the procreation of man. Gen. 5:1-3

  • Adam is made in the image of Him who was to come.  Romans 5:14

  • Again God reiterates that man is made in his image when he institutes capital punishment. Gen. 9:6

  • The image of God represented in man must have been a type of something else as we are consistently warned throughout scripture not to make any graven image, any likeness or representation even in the form of a man—of God.  Exodus 20:4, Leviticus. 26:1, Deuteronomy. 4:16,23,25; 5:8; 9:12; 16:22; 27:15, etc.

  • The image of God is One image—never represents more than one. Revelations 4:2

  • Daniel sees an image of God—Daniel 2:31, 34-35

  • Matthew 22:20, Mark 12:16, Luke 20:24—all share the story of those who attempted to tempt Yeshua by testing his submission to human authority. “Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?  Shall we give, or shall we not give?  Be he, knowing their hypocrisy, said unto them, Why tempt ye me?  Bring me a penny, that I may see it.  And they brought it.  And he saith unto them.  Whose is this image and superscription?  And they said unto him, Caesar’s.  And Yeshua answering said, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”

  • Romans 1:20-23 discusses the corruption of God’s image and it is directly related to the revelation and understanding of the Godhead. “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and God head; so that they are without excuse:  because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened…And changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man…who changed the truth of God into a lie and worshipped and serve the creature more than the Creator.

  • Romans 8:29 states, “who he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.”

  • 1 Corinthians 11:7, “man is the image and the glory of God.”

  • 1 Corinthians 15:49, “And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.”  ---Who is that image?

  • The revelation of the image of God is directly related to salvation. “But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:  In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Messiah, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”  II Corinthians 4:3-4

  • Yeshua (Jesus) is the image of the invisible God and Creator of all things. Colossians 1:15

  • The image of God houses the Godhead bodily.  Colossians. 2:9

  • Believers put off the old man and put on the new man in water baptism through water baptism—“Lie not one to another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his deeds; and have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of Him that created him.”  Col 3:9-10 (Circumcision of the heart—Death, burial and resurrection--Romans 6, Colossians 2:10-11, and Galatians 3:26)

  • Hebrews 1:3, “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son (flesh and blood), who he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.”

  • Torah (Word of God) was a shadow of good things to come and not the very image of the things, could never make believers perfect pertaining to the conscience…Therefore, God manifest his Image—the body Yeshua HaMoshiac, The LORD God our Savior, “Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body has thou prepared me.”   Heb 10:1,5,10

  • He perfected man through the flesh and blood of His Image—even remission of sin (see Acts 2:38)—granting us boldness to enter into the Holy of Holies through the “flesh” of God.

  • The connection between God’s Image and His name is carried through until the last page of the book of Revelations.  “And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on Mount Zion, and with him an hundred and forty and four thousand, having his Father’s Name written in their foreheads.”  “I Yeshua have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches.  I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.”

Every Main Stream Truth has its origin in the book of Genesis and its conclusion in the book of Revelations.  It will also be found woven with great intricacy through the Torah (1st five books of Moses), the writings, and the prophets.  As you can see, the understanding of the Image of God begins in the book of Genesis and ends in Revelations.

The Doctrine that these scriptures substantially support and flow into is non other than the focal or pinnacle doctrine of the Bible—The Shema, “Hear O Israel the LORD our God, the LORD is ONE.”  From eternity God has revealed Himself as ONE.  We serve a Monothiestic God.  All Hebraic roots, Biblical Judaism and present day Rabbinical Judaism are based upon this great and glorious truth.  Anything outside of this great truth is based upon doctrines of man and not of God.  Jews have died for centuries for this truth—as believers we must not try to conform the Root that we came out of into a doctrine contrary to what the Root believes.  But we must find out what the Root believes and allow all truth to flow from and into that root.  Yeshua said that He was the vine and we are the branches—The Spirit that dwelleth in Him (Eternal Spirit of the Father) is the Husbandman in John 15:1-10, and Romans 11:11-16.
When we enter into the eternal, binding covenant of Abraham’s seed through circumcision of the heart (water and spirit baptism) the evidence is insurmountable that we are to enter in through the “flesh” of God.  This is to say through His Image—even His Son.  This Image carries with it a mark or a name, which the book of Revelations states is the “Father’s Name.”  The Name we take on in baptism becomes our Mark: our seal of Authority and Honor.

Revelations 14:1 says, “And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Zion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads.   22:4, “And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads. And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the LORD God gives them light; and they shall reign forever and ever. And I saw no temple therein: for the LORD God Almighty and the Lamb (Image) are the temple of it.  And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it:  for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.”
John 1:1 & 9 says , “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  The same was in the beginning with God.  All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made.  In him was life; and the life was the Light of men.  This was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world…And the Word was made flesh.”
Why was life in him?  Because the Word became the flesh and blood of God.  And the scriptures teach us in Leviticus 17;11, “The Life is in the blood.” Notice it was the blood shed and sprinkled over every covenant to make the covenant effective.  Hence the life of the covenant comes through its connection to flesh and blood.  The Spirit of man—even his soul abides within his blood.

The Name—Yeshua (Jesus)

According to all four gospels, the book of Acts, and Paul’s explication of the Name connected to circumcision of the heart, we find that it is through immersion that one takes on the Father’s Name, as stated in the above passage.

Kefa said in Acts 2:38, “Repent and be immersed every one of you in the name of Yeshua (Jesus) for the remission of your sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost (Ruach Hakodesh).  This is not just formula for baptism, nor is it to be a point of doctrinal contention, as all scriptures regarding immersion focus on the calling over the one being immersed The Name; this passage reveals that the only Name that remits sin and marks a man with the Image of God is the Name, Yeshua.  Why?  Because it is the Name of the LORD God Almighty, YHVH Elohim our deliver as revealed to Moshe in Exodus 3:13-15 and 6:2-4.  It is the covenant Name of God revealed to mankind in the fullness of time.  What does Yeshua mean? It means, “Yah”—The LORD God and “Shua”—Delivers and Saves (savior).”

Jesus, himself, says in Revelations 1:8, “I am the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the LORD, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.”  This statement made by Yeshua himself is the very same statement made by God to both Avraham, when He revealed himself as the Almighty and to Moshe, when He revealed himself as YHVH, the one who was and is and is to come, your salvation.

In closing, the Name of the LORD God revealed delivers man, marks him, restores God’s Image in and upon man, grants him heavenly authority and places him into the Covenant of Abraham.  Therefore, it behooves us to call on His Name—Yeshua.  The Apostles said, “Whatever you do in word of deed do it in the Name of Jesus (Yeshua). “And men began to call of the Name of the LORD.”  And “ This is the stone which was set at naught of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.  Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”   Colossians 3:17 and Acts 4:12
