'Amidah' in Hebrew basically means, 'to stand.'
'The Amidah' is 'the standing prayer' and it is also known as the 'Shemonei Esrei' meaning, 'the Eighteen Blessings.' It is the central structure of Jewish Prayer and considered to be the 'prayer of prayers' in Jewish thought.
Did you know that the 'The Amidah' is what Jesus refers to when he teaches his disciples to pray 'Our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name?
Did you know that the New Covenant scripture, 'when you stand praying forgive' refers specifically to The Amidah?
The Amidah is not only recognized as the most intriguing, most mysterious of Jewish prayers, but the origins of the Amidah have puzzled students, scholars, and sages throughout history.
